| The Revival of the Year: Max Ophuls' 1955 LOLA MONTES returns to the big screen!
|
In 1963 legendary film critic Andrew Sarris famously proclaimed Max Ophuls' LOLA MONTES "the greatest film ever made." You can see this final film by the director of "The Earrings of Madame de..." and "Le Plaisir" this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday when we present the Cleveland premiere of a new restoration that was showcased at last fall's New York Film Festival. It was the great director's only movie in color, and his only movie in Cinemascope. Essential viewing!

| Jean-Claude Van Damme spoofs his action-star screen persona in JCVD
|
In JCVD, showing this Friday and Saturday, Belgian action-movie star Jean-Claude Van Damme plays a washed-up Belgian action-movie star named Jean-Claude Van Damme (coincidence?) who gets caught up in a "real-life" bank heist, with amusing and unexpected results. If you like the mind-exploding work of Charlie Kaufman, then this wild new film is for you!

| Katharine Hepburn, gay zombies, and doc on Africa fill out "Super Bowl of Cinema" weekend. Plus our "Deal of the Week"
|
David Lean's SUMMERTIME, showing Saturday only, stars Katharine Hepburn as an American spinster who finds love with a married Italian man while on vacation in Venice. It is the first of five color Lean films we will show over the next five weekends.
OTTO; OR, UP WITH DEAD PEOPLE, showing Thursday and Sunday, is the latest feature by Canadian provocateur Bruce LaBruce. Set in a near-future Berlin, it's a tale of gay zombies and German avant-garde filmmakers -- two pretty scary groups. No one under 18 admitted!
PRAY THE DEVIL BACK TO HELL, showing Thursday and Sunday, tells the amazing, inspiring true story of how Christian and Muslim women in Liberia came together to stop a bloody civil war, topple the corrupt leader Charles Taylor, and help get a woman elected as their country's president -- Africa's first female head of state! Print this email and present it at the box office and see this award-winning documentary for only $6 ($5 if you're a Cinematheque member); it's our Deal of the Week!
